DFSIN Nova Scotia Partners with Group from Local University, Wins Big!

One of DFSIN Nova Scotia biggest goals is to stay active and involved in their community. As Managing Director Robert Caissie puts it, “We look for unique opportunities in which we can sponsor or lend a helping hand and hopefully make a difference”.

This past year DFSIN Nova Scotia partnered with a great group of students from the Dalhousie University Rowe School of Business, “JDCC Team”. This is a team made up of 50 students from all years of the Dalhousie Commerce Co-operative program, as well as a number of faculty advisors. They spend countless hours outside of class and study time preparing for JDC Central; Canada’s premier business case competition. This year’s event featured 700 business students from 14 different business schools competing in a variety of events that test every aspect of university life.

“Thanks to creating relationships with local Universities like Dalhousie and the Rowe School of Business, we were exposed to this fantastic group of students. Immediately, we wanted to be involved”, adds Rob. DFSIN Nova Scotia signed on as a Silver Sponsor to help with some of the costs of transportation and accommodations for students in the event. They also assisted the group with feedback as judges to their practice cases leading up to the event.

Dalhousie University has been involved in JDCC since its inception. While the Rowe teams have always done well, this year was the best yet for the school. Dalhousie took home five awards: first place for Charity, first place for International Business, second place for Social Challenges, third place for the Academic Cup and third place for School of the Year. While all of these awards made the students and captains proud, it was the Academic Cup and School of the Year placements that astonished them.

Team captains Chris Dubois and Shelbi Sprung (both 3rd year finance students) thanked DFSIN Nova Scotia for their sponsorship and dedicating time to help the team prepare for the big event.
